Light profoundly shapes plant growth and metabolism. Different light spectra play distinct roles in plant morphology and secondary metabolite production.

1. UV Light (100-400 nm):

• Controlled UV radiation stimulates flavonoid production for defence
• Excessive UV exposure can damage plants and reduce growth

2. Blue Light (400-500 nm):

• Shorter, stockier plant growth
• Increased leaf thickness, stomatal density & chlorophyll content
• Stimulates anthocyanins, flavonoids & phenolic compounds for defence.

3. Green Light (500-600 nm):

• Impacts leaf expansion & stomatal conductance
• Promotes specific phenolic compounds with antioxidant properties

4. Red Light (600-700 nm):

• Induces elongation, flowering & fruit development
• Boosts carotenoids for photosynthesis & antioxidant activity

5. Far-Red Light (700-800 nm):

• Increases stem elongation in dense canopies
• Regulates photomorphogenesis & seed germination
• Indirectly affects secondary metabolites through light signalling

Understanding these light-induced responses offers the potential for optimizing cultivation practices, improving crop yields & harnessing bioactive compounds for agriculture and human health benefits.
