Key Features, Benefits & Advantages

Top Features

  • 36 W in a 1.2 m, 0.55 kg bar with a 120 degree beam
  • Nx1.2 spectrum with 1% UV and an 80/20 diffuser
  • Specially designed C3 connectors; 2-pin top input, inter-connectors and F2F

What it is and who it is for

The 4ft 36W HYGL8.1 is a 1.2 metre linear LED grow bar for indoor leafy production. It has the same 30 x 35 mm section as the 18 W HYGL8 but twice the power, so one bar lights a wider tray or a taller tier. Its 120 degree beam spreads light along the full 1.2 m run.

This listing is the Nx1.2 version: a blue-and-red balanced spectrum with a small 1% UV component and an 80/20 diffuser. The housing is aluminium and IP54-rated, so it tolerates the humidity of a grow room. Nexsel is a Pune-based manufacturer and ships across India.

Nx1.2 is 30% blue, 25% green, 37% red and 7% far-red, plus 1% UV (390 to 730 nm). ePAR is 92, colour temperature is 12,222 K and CRI is 63. The tall colour temperature and low CRI describe how the light looks to people; they result from a plant-tuned blue-red mix, not a defect. If you want a spectrum with no UV, Nexsel also lists Nx4 on this page - see the Spectrum Selection Guide to compare.

The Nx4 version on this page has no UV: 30% blue, 25% green, 38% red and 7% far-red, with ePAR 93, colour temperature 6,331 K and CRI 82. It uses a clear diffuser instead of the 80/20 diffuser; Nexsel states the clear diffuser raises intensity at the same wattage and that Nx4 saves 20% electricity at the same intensity (manufacturer claims). 100% flicker-free output is optional on both versions.

Who it suits:

  • Hydroponic and NFT growers who want higher intensity from one bar over lettuce, spinach, kale, basil and amaranthus
  • Vertical-farm and container-farm operators with taller tiers or wider trays
  • Commercial leafy-green growers who want fewer fixtures per tier
  • Buyers comparing the 36 W bar with the 18 W HYGL8 on the same 1.2 m length

Light intensity at the plant (PPFD)

Measured under one luminaire over a 1.2 m x 0.3 m area: peak 81 at 30 cm above the sensor (38 to 81 across the grid) and peak 53 at 45 cm (27 to 53). A higher-efficiency 2.6-3.1 PPE version peaks at 96 (30 cm) and 64 (45 cm). Values are PPFD in µmol/m²/s.

Nx4 under the same luminaire and area: peak 100 at 30 cm (49 to 100 across the grid) and 62 at 45 cm (36 to 62). A 2.6-3.1 PPE version peaks at 115 and 74. Nx1.2 above peaks at 81 and 53.

How to use these numbers: daily light integral (DLI, mol per m² per day) = PPFD x hours of light x 0.0036. Pick the PPFD your crop needs, then choose mounting height and number of fixtures to reach it. Measure intensity at canopy with a PAR meter / quantum sensor.

Installation and electrical

Mount with the supplied holding clamps or a cable tie. Power connects through a 2-pin top input; bars chain with inter-connectors or F2F connectors, which cuts wiring per tier (Nexsel's sheet quotes up to 80% less wiring and 60-70% faster installation than conventional fixtures - manufacturer figures). The sheet lists C3 connectors and optional 100% flicker-free output.

See the Hydroponics installation guide for mounting and wiring, and the HYGL8.1 model page for full model details.

Choosing the right Nexsel model

HYGL8.1 36 W is the high-output 1.2 m leafy bar. The 18 W HYGL8 page uses the same body at half the power; the 3 ft page is the shorter option. Nx1.2 carries 1% UV, Nx4 none.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much electricity does a 36 W grow bar use?

It draws 36 W, or 0.036 kW. Run for 16 hours a day it uses 0.576 kWh daily, about 17.3 kWh a month. Multiply that by your electricity tariff for the running cost. The 16-hour day is only an example; set your own photoperiod.

How is the 36 W bar different from the 18 W HYGL8?

Both are 1.2 m long with a 30 x 35 mm section. The 36 W bar has twice the power, draws 0.15 A against 0.075 A and weighs 0.55 kg against 0.26 kg. In Nexsel's test it reads a peak of 81 at 30 cm.

How high should I mount it above lettuce or spinach?

Nexsel measured at 30 cm and 45 cm. Under one bar the peak is 81 at 30 cm and 53 at 45 cm. Hang it closer for more intensity and raise it as plants grow. Check your crop's own light needs first.

Is IP54 enough for a humid grow room?

IP54 means the bar is protected against dust ingress and splashing water from any direction, and the data sheet lists operating humidity up to 95%. It is not submersible and should not be hosed down, so keep it clear of direct water jets.

Can I dim the bar?

Triac dimming and fully flicker-free output are listed as options on the data sheet. State the option you need when you order or contact Nexsel on 98817 98822, because they are not the default configuration.

How many 36 W bars do I need per tier?

It depends on the intensity you want. One bar at 30 cm reads 38 to 81 across a 1.2 x 0.3 m area in Nexsel's measurements. Send your tier length, width and crop to [email protected] and the team will advise a layout.

What warranty does it carry and how fast does it ship?

The standard warranty is 24 months from the date of shipment. Orders dispatch within 7 working days and arrive within 7 days of dispatch. Prices exclude GST, and returns are accepted within 7 days if the item is damaged, defective or not as described.

What is the difference between Nx1.2 and Nx4 on this bar?

Nx1.2 has 1% UV and an 80/20 diffuser; Nx4 has no UV and a clear diffuser. In Nexsel's test one bar peaks at 81 at 30 cm on Nx1.2 and 100 on Nx4. Percentages are close (blue 30%, green 25%, red 37 or 38%). Choose by crop and whether you want UV.
